- ・Admission will be refused to those with symptoms such as fevers or colds.
- ・We ask that you practice cough etiquette, frequent hand-washing, and hand sanitation.
- ・We ask that you complete a survey (contact information and status regarding fever, etc.) Only one person need do this for families or groups.
- ・Please follow the instructions of the staff inside the castle park grounds.
Points to Remember When Visiting
- ※The pathways are slippery when it rains. Please wear non-slip soled shoes when visiting the castle.
- ※When crowded, please refrain from taking photographs using camera tripods or selfie sticks.
- ※While pets may not be taken inside the castle park, assistance dogs are allowed to accompany visitors.
- ※No flames or fires are allowed inside Kumamoto Castle park grounds.
Paid facilities have no indoor smoking areas, so smokers are asked to use the smoking areas next to the Ninomaru Free Rest Area or at Josaien. - ※We request that you refrain from eating in observation areas. Drinks are allowed, providing they have lids.
- ※Visitors needing wheelchairs, including electrically power-assisted ones, may borrow them for free (It is necessary to be accompanied by a helper, and the wheelchairs may not be used on rainy days).
- ※Baby strollers are allowed to be brought and used.
- ※During the Grand Unveiling, the area surrounding Kumamoto Castle is expected to be very crowded.
We ask that you take public transportation to come to the castle and allow plenty of time for viewing. - Depending on crowd conditions, entry restrictions may be imposed.

- ※Visitors exempt from paying admission, as well as those with coupons, are still required to pick up admission tickets at a Ticket Office or Station.
- ※You may have to wait in line to get your tickets, so please allow extra time when visiting the castle.
- ※Combination tickets for all three museums may also be purchased at the Kumamoto City Museum.

Free Wheelchair Rental
We offer free wheelchair rental, including electrically powered ones.
- Rental Locations
Sakurano-Baba Josaien, Ninomaru Parking Lot, Ninomaru Ticket Counter, the Disaster Management Center (the Ninomaru Ticket Counter and the Disaster Management Center are only open on Special Opening days)
- Important Points
・The number of wheelchairs is limited.
・Please understand that waiting times may vary.
・When using a wheelchair, including an electrically powered one, you must be accompanied by someone to assist you.
・Please understand that our staff are unable to assist you with the wheelchair.
・Electrically powered wheelchairs cannot be used in rainy weather.
Kumamoto Free Wi-Fi
How to Connect
To connect to Kumamoto Free Wi-Fi please follow these steps.
- 1. Open wi-fi settings on your smartphone, tablet or other wifi-enabled device, and from the list of available wi-fi, select kumamoto-free-wifi.
- 2.Open an internet browser.
- 3.You should see the Kumamoto Free Wi-Fi registration page. Upon registering you should be connected.
・You will be prompted to register your details once for first use of the service.
・It is neccessary to register again when you connect from a new device.
・Upon using the service the second time after registering, you should be able to connect to the service simply by selecting kumamoto-free-wifi from the list of available connections.
- Wi-Fi Areas: Sakurano-Baba Josaien, The Tourist Information Office, Ninomaru Parking Lot south-side Restrooms, Ninomaru Ticket Office, Uto-Yagura, Tenshukaku-Mae Hiroba Square, and surrounding areas
The Well-Deserved Rest Area
Kumamoto earthquake relief fundraising goods, as well as Kumamoto Castle goods, are sold here. Stamps and gojoin (commemorative seals) from 100 Japanese castles are available here, so please drop in and have a look.

Kumamoto City Hall 14th Floor Observatory Lobby
The 14th floor observation area of Kumamoto City Hall is a space open to the public, so please feel free to use it. You can also see the Tenshukaku main tower and the Honmaru Goten Palace from here.

Sakurano-Baba Josaien
Josaien is located in Sakurano-Baba, at the base of Kumamoto Castle, named one of the three most famous castles in Japan. As the symbol of Kumamoto, Josaien aims to enhance the attraction of Kumamoto Castle and the town surrounding it by sharing information about the local cuisine, history and traditions.
There are also dance performances and shows featuring Kumamoto City's mascot character, Higomaru, as well as a troupe of samurai performers called Omotenashi Bushotai.
Kumamoto Castle Museum Wakuwaku-Za
Kumamoto Castle Museum Wakuwaku-Za, is a space where visitors are entertained using all of the senses. In this zone, you can enjoy Kumamoto castle history and culture more than ever before.
Sakura-no-Koji Shopping Street
This shopping street is made up of 23 shops offering specially selected goods from all over Kumamoto prefecture.
Don't miss the chance to take a wander around this revived Edo-style street, while enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime atmosphere and sampling all kinds of exclusive local fare.
Tourist Information Center
The Tourist Information Center is on the south side of Sakura-no-Baba Josaien. Here you can find information on all kinds of tourist spots, mostly in Kumamoto.
As well as organising volunteer Guides (Kumamoto Systematized Goodwill Guide Club), you can collect a limited stamp, available at only 100 castle locations throughout Japan. Please feel free to drop in any time.
